the Autumn garden

Summer flowers make way for the tall grassland plants. Their height and colours - yellows, oranges and reds - draw in pollinating insects. Ornamental grasses shoot up as fireworks. The display stands out against dramatic autumn skies, plants wind quivering - complementing the season’s berries, fruits and red leaves.
The soil is still warm. It is the optimum time for planting projects. Tidying too: dahlias and annuals, lifted and away their place taken by the bulbs.
