This is the east coast of England - it is falling into the sea, quite literally and makes small wave and local newspaper headlines on a regular basis. It has been going on for centuries. Walberswick, as prosperous port, is long gone, leaving a hamlet and a church that has shrunk to a mere aisle of its former grand structure. We followed the reed beds inland to visit the church at Blythburgh, credited by Benjamin Britten with perfect acoustics. The proportions and the light are fantastic. presided over by great carved angels in the roof bosses. Well out of reach the iconoclasts.
