Catharine Howard is a well-established, Suffolk-based garden designer who is passionate about plants, and helping people realise the garden of their dreams. As well as her celebrated blog, Catharine also writes about gardens for  IntoGardens and ThinkinGardens as well as for the Guardian garden blog. She is also the gardening correspondent for the  local magazine “Essential Suffolk”.
Catharine’s practice is concentrated in Suffolk but she has also planned gardens in Norfolk, Essex, Sussex and, from time to time, London.  She says: “My ethos is to put people in the shoes I had on when we first came to Suffolk.  That is,  arriving to a new sizeable -sized garden and not knowing where to begin.  Hedges may have gone crazy, saplings seeded and hidden views be there to retrieve.

“To this end, there is often a coaching element in my designing.  The aim is to get everyone involved in the plant and material selection and  to steer them towards what is compatible with the site and the soil. ”

Specifically, Catharine is happy to undertake any of the following:

  • Surveys
  • Consultations
  • Master planning
  • Planting plans
  • Vegetable gardens and orchards
  • Woodlands and spinneys
  • Restoration and renovation

Initial site visits are free ( petrol charged   over a 30 mile round trip).
